Picture Canada (“Picture Canada,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates picturecanada.com (the “Site”), a platform connecting photographers and videographers with people who want to discover photos and videos of Canada. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1. Who We Are

2. Information We Collect
Account and registration information: When you register as a member (traveler or photographer), we collect information such as your name, email address, city/location, and, for photographer accounts, your business name, website, Instagram handle, and the type(s) of photography or videography you do. Some of this information is optional and is used to build your public profile.
Sign-in information: You can create an account using an email address, or by signing in with a third-party account such as Google or Facebook. If you sign in with a social account, that provider shares limited profile information with us (typically your name, email address, and profile photo) as authorized by you during sign-in. We also use one-time passcodes (OTP) sent to your email to verify your identity during registration and login. We do not see or store your social account password.
Payment information: If you purchase a membership, payments are processed by Stripe, our third-party payment processor. We do not store your full credit card number on our servers. We retain records of your membership plan, transaction history, and billing status as needed to manage your account.
Content you submit: Photos, videos, captions, locations, and other content you upload to the Site, along with any metadata attached to that content (such as file information or location tags you choose to include).
Communications: If you contact us, or if you subscribe to updates, we keep a record of that communication and your contact preferences, including whether you have opted in to marketing emails as distinct from account/service emails.
Usage and technical information: Standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and referring pages, generally collected through cookies and similar technologies.
Cookies: We use cookies and similar technologies for essential site functionality, analytics, and (where you consent) marketing purposes. You can manage your cookie preferences through the cookie consent banner shown on the Site, and through your browser settings.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: create and manage your account; operate the sign-up, sign-in, and identity verification process (including social login and email OTP verification); display photographer and content profiles publicly as intended by the Site’s purpose; process membership payments and manage subscriptions; moderate submitted content against our Terms of Use and Content Standards; send you service-related communications (such as account, verification, and billing notices); send you marketing or newsletter communications where you have opted in, and let you opt out at any time; improve, secure, and troubleshoot the Site; and comply with legal obligations.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information with:
Service providers who help us operate the Site, including our payment processor (Stripe), email and marketing platform, identity verification and social login providers (Google, Facebook, and our OTP/2FA provider), web hosting provider, and backup provider. These providers only receive the information needed to perform their function and are contractually restricted from using it for other purposes.
Other users and the public, where you choose to make information public as part of your profile or submitted content (for example, a photographer’s public profile, portfolio, and published photos/videos).
Legal and safety purposes, where we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with the law, respond to lawful requests, protect the rights, property, or safety of Picture Canada, our users, or the public, or to report suspected illegal activity, including to law enforcement and to child protection authorities such as the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (Cybertip.ca), as described further in our Terms of Use.
Business transfers, if Picture Canada is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Children’s Privacy
Picture Canada is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to register an account, submit content, or purchase a membership. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. While the public-facing galleries may be viewed by a general audience, we do not knowingly permit children to register accounts, and we enforce a strict, zero-tolerance policy against any content that sexualizes, exploits, or endangers minors, as described in our Terms of Use. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child without appropriate consent, we will delete it and, where required, report the circumstances to the appropriate authorities.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal, tax, accounting, and dispute-resolution requirements. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information at any time, subject to information we are required to retain by law (such as financial records).
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to withdraw consent to processing, and to object to or restrict certain uses. To exercise these rights, contact us at legal@picturecanada.com. Canadian residents also have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe your rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) have not been respected.
You can update your account information at any time by logging in, unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any marketing email, and manage cookie preferences through the cookie banner on the Site.
8. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure password and passwordless authentication practices, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Data Transfers
Our service providers may process or store information outside of Canada, including in the United States. Where this occurs, we take steps to ensure appropriate protections are in place consistent with applicable law.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated in a reasonably prominent way.
